Is there a name for this type of portafilter? I've never seen one without 'spouts'. Is it available/usable with a good home machine like a Silvia? What are the benefits over a tracitional portafilter, aside from the photogenic properties?

Yes there is a name for that type of portafilter, and depending on who you ask you'll get a different answer. Most of us call it a naked portafilter, some call it a bottomless portafilter, while others call it pantsless (the later being more of a joke). Go to one of our sponsers, www.espressoparts.com, for a selection of naked portafilters. Well worth it, especially with a triple basket.

Hi Andre,

Great shots! I'd like to ask your permission to use a couple of your shots for my little cafe - http://www.thecaffebar.com/ if you agreeable. I happen to be using Illy coffee at my cafe! I'm happy to send a softcopy of the finished menu page to you. I took all of my food shots myself, and I was going to use some shots from Illy, but your crema has won me over.
